Are the standard and HD torsion bars the same length ? I
know that, at least for 59 Dodge, the standard torsion bars are shorter and
thinner than the HDs, which are found on the convertible (and possibly D500s as
well). It was necessary to move the rear torsion bar mounts back about four or
five inches to accomodate them when I swapped out the rusted frame on my
convertible for a much nicer one from my 2dr parts car. FORTUNATELY, the holes
are pre-drilled on the inner frame rail for doing this swap.

B,
I've only known of one '57-58 DeSoto being documented
to have had the HD T-bars out of the factory as an option. It was a '57
Adventurer convertible that was a special order. Even
Adventurers came with standard Firedome/ Fireflight T-bars. So
HIGHLY unlikely your car had them. Scrape or wire brush the rear
end of the bars after temporarily removing the retaining wire clips, and see
what last-three digits you find.
I have a pair of 300C torsion bars out and ready to
send to start this project. We need LOTS of interest and a
supplier to create new ones.
