| I actually went and looked at this car when it was for sale in Oakland, CA several years ago. The fin work was very professional. As the story went, the original owner, who had passed away was going to get a new car in the mid 60s but he loved the '61. He and his wife were embarrassed by the large fins, as they were so out of fashion during that time, so he proposed the idea of shaving the fins down to his wife and she went for it. Anyway, it was in really nice shape but the shorn fins really ruined the look of the car so I passed on it. As I remember it was being offered for a low price, I think around $2000. A '61 Imperial, that is noted for those wild fins, really looked weird without the fins. I guess if someone wanted to they could bring it back by finding some stock fins and somehow redoing it. Nick.
