I have noted that Chrysler 300's have been written about for 54 years and that as conjecture and errors creep into the printed media they tend to be repeated by the next writer.  This phenomenon is not limited to automotive literature.
So, I would not think of repeating the previously-printed conjecture that the C in the C-300 model designation was tribute to one who contributed to its creation, our "Uncle" Briggs Cunningham who did designate his dual-quad hemi-engined specials as C-20, C-30 & etc. as I recall.

Yes, I guess it was "mostly correct".  Should probably criticize  the 
assertion that the "C" in C300 stood for coupe.  Don't know where  that came 
from.  The "C" stood for Chrysler, just like it did in the 1955  NewYorker and 
Windsor designations of C68 and C67 respectively.  Actually,  the C300 (or 
C-300) was sometimes designated as the C68-300, revealing its  close 
relationship to the NYer.
