[FWDLK] STARTER MOTOR OPERATION QUESTION

Hello Members

 

Question on our starter motors--it should not make a difference what engine or year.

 

I cranked the new engine over a few times (without starting) to get oil pressure up and just examine other things.

NO PROBLEMO!!

When I went to turn the engine by hand to pre set the timing and stuff,,,,I heard the starter 'racheting' because it is still engaged with the ring gear.

 

Any reason why it has NOT released its grasp?????

Anyone know how that DISENGAGEMENT is supposed to happen??

Can it stay engaged after the engine starts???  That seems like that could be a mess.!!
