got to thinking more then checked and found the
following site so need to correct my earlier comment.
Triple plating often done now is generally two
different types of nickel topped with chrome and the base copper layer is left
out. The copper which I believe produces a much better job helps
adhesion and is far better for smoothing the original surface out
before applying the upper layers

My plater still uses copper-nickel-chrome. If it were nickel
plated, it would have a grayish-yellowish tint.

Triple plating these days means copper, nickel
and another coat of nickel sadly. I believe the two coats of nickel
are different somehow. It is not as good as the original method and I
believe the nickel layers sometimes separate after a while.
