Mike,
Should
we or shouldn?t we fill the gas tank for winter storage?
In my
opinion, it is better to fill the tank. In a few months of winter storage, gas
doesn?t get that stale and you can always ad a can of stabilizer. In 30 years
of storing cars for the winter, I have never had a fuel problem at spring
startup.
If the
tank doesn?t have gas in it, it has air in it. Air contains water vapor, and
when the temperature drops, the water condenses on the interior walls of the
gas tank. This causes rust on the walls and top of the tank. As the
temperature increases and decreases during the daily cycle, the air expands
and contracts, exchanging old air for fresh air carrying more water vapor.
Each day, more water can condense, until it runs down the interior walls into
the gas. Since water is heavier than gas, it settles at the bottom of the
tank. This rusts the bottom of the tank. In a daily driver, this
bottom-of-the-tank water could cause gas line freeze, which is why the gas
additive ?HEAT? was invented. But with modern gasohol, which is 10% alcohol,
this water doesn?t freeze anymore. It just stays liquid and keeps on rusting
the tank. So, if the tank is full, there is no air and all of the above goes
away.

everyone?
I know
my cars are put away for the winter. Covers and all. Should
of filled up at $2.13 @ gallon, but not good to sit all winter. Hope it
is still that low in the spring.
As for
the Big 3 bail out. I would like to see our American 3 survive, but come
on!! How about giving TAX payers a 50K tax credit to buy an AMERICAN
car. I am sure that would jump start the economy in itself and keep
Detroit rolling!!!!!! I know a nice Dodge Journey sitting with my name
on it!!!!!! Or just send us a check to buy a new car, that would work
too. I'll buy two!!!!
