I have always supported the idea that the US should place import restrictions and duties that mirror the other country. If Japan has a 100% import duty on cars, we should have the same on Japanese cars & parts coming here. When Japan lowers their duty, ours automatically lowers to the same rate. Often the same commodity is not exchanged, in which case the most significant trade commodity would receive the duty.
