The D500-8181 would be a 1956 engine - a 315-cid hemi to be precise, and is
the 7,181st one built.
The KD500 engine would be a 1957 engine - the "K" is Mopar Engineering Dept.-speak for the 1957 model year. And the engine would be a 325-cid hemi. The 354-cid engines were D-501 models, and thus the engine numbers would have a "KD501" prefix. It sounds to me like someone is confused a D500-8181 would be consistant with a 1956 D500 engine, the casting number on the block would be correct for both years of Dodge engine D500s it should have a date on it as well. I have a 58 Coronet engine with the same casting number and it is a poly, so the ID number is the key. A 354 engine would not have that casting number, hope this helps Tim In a message dated 10/8/2008 2:37:12 P.M. According to my references, this is only a 354 cid engine ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options, please go to http://lists.psu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=l-forwardlook&A=1
