The answer to this is in two parts.
The first of the short 331 blocks without the cast-in
bellhousing extension were installed in some late 53 Imperials and a very few
late '53 New Yorkers employed in those cars receiving the new Powerflite
transmission.
The last of the extended 331 blocks with the cast-in
bellhousing were installed in early '54 Chryslers which were using up
inventory of the older transmission.
