Hello Bill,
I have the same kit for one of my '58 Imperials from AAJ (yet to be
installed) and I'm also concerned about the clearance. I talked with Roger about
this at the time of ordering and he expressed how a disc brake master cylinder
would not clear the valve cover but a drum brake (equal size reservoir) would
just barely fit. Running disc brakes with the smaller fluid reservoir has me a
bit nervous regardless.
There is an interesting (gaudy) '57 Imperial on eBay right now item # 170212037342. It has a later model / possibly GM? booster and
master cylinder that appears to be mounted higher up at the top of the bracket.
I have often wondered if this was possible without completely reworking the
pedal and under dash brackets. This would also eliminate the need for the older
style bellows booster. You may want to contact this seller and see if he has any
additional pictures or information.
The offset bracket you mentioned seems like a sure win also. I would
definitely attempt it even if some modification were needed. It would be mostly
hidden for more of a stock appearance while possibly allowing the use of a
true disc brake master cylinder. I would be anxious to hear of any results
you come up with.
