Hi David -
I would remove the tank, drain the gas (dispose of
responsibly),boil out the tank, put a new nylon filter on the sending unit's
pickup tube (the old one has probably disintegrated), coat the inside
of the tank with sealer. Then reassemble and reinstall. Don't drain the
tank via the drain plug in the bottom (if so equipped). The rubber seal has
probably hardened. If you disturb the plug, your tank will weep and you'll be
smelling gas as you drive.

I have a stupid question. I know the answer is most likely an aeasy
one, so here it goes.
I am the PROUD owner of a 1956
Plymouth Belvedere that is in AMAZING condition and all I need to do to get
her running is drain the old gas out of the tank lines etc. I just
would love some opinions on the BEST way to do this. I love my car and I want
to make sure I do this right.
THANK YOU!!
