Mark overlooks mentioning that those of us who had arrived at the 'Tree,
on TUES (as I had recommended, all-along) had reconnoitered at the Lobby
Bar, & had decided to walk over to the Vault, to go look at it, at 9AM
on WED.
We did, and happened upon the non-previously announced lifting/
removal OF the three (held-in-place/non-sealed DAMNIT!) lids over the
vault, exposing the car for the first time, in 50 years.
Talk about a thrill!
Those pics are posted on the Forwardlook's website, on the
early-postings-pages on the "Tulsarama" board .
Anyway, referring to the mid-west hospitailty and economy we
encountered, at the SAT car show, among the many vendors there, a 12"
boxed Dominos pizza cost $3.00, and the Boy Scouts were holding a
fund-raiser, so they were selling 12 oz bottles of fruit-flavored cola
for ONE-doillar!
The local police & sheriffs were VERY friendly (even TALKATIVE--ever try
to have a normal conversation with a cop, while he's on duty, or NOT?)
They showed real smiles, not just professional ones.

Hurrah!! I'm usually too busy raising my two kids (3 and 5) to post as prolificly as Neil, et al. But I had planned on being in Tulsa since 1990. It was everything I hoped it would be. Marv Raguse's comments were right on, so were Brian Cooper's. Like John here, I don't think any of us care if SKD is sincere or not, and Roger VH - thanks for your reservation to the Double Tree, but PLEASE stop saying, whenever Tulsa happens to come up, how much of a rip-off it was. The ONLY thing you are accomplishing, whenever you do that, is making most of the list angry at you for calling all of us fools. We all went, we all had a wonderful, awesome, once-in-a-lifetime time, and we spent who knows (or cares) how much
money. You chose not to participate. That's fine. But it doesn't make you smarter than the rest of us because we got ripped off and you didn't. I'll always remember sneaking back in to the indoor show the night of the unveiling, and not only being the first to really see Miss B up close and personal, but we even had the security guards taking pictures of us posing with the car! And Neil Vedder and I had that sneak peek of the video shot inside the vault before the car was raised - how exciting to see the secret behind the velvet curtain . . .what a fabulous adventure for all who attended! But, even without the Forwardlook ride, my brother ( who doesn't give a squat about fins)and I, had a super three days. New friends, new faces to match with names from a computer, beautiful cars, great surroundings, fun talks, heck, where else could you spend 2, 3, 4 days with so many gearheads, purists, customizers, rat rodders, racers, collectors, former employees of Ma Popar, lawyers, doctors, and probably an Indian Chief, without going to the same annual events held for the same reason year after year.
Money! As far as Sharon Davis and her bumbling sidekick along with Clod B., I could give two Sh..s (shoes!) as I think back. I went there to see "The Car Star, of the Century past!" I don't care who made money off from us, or any of the thousands of others who attended. If you were not there, your loss! If you think we got skinned, screwed, bamboozled, hoodwinked, taken, ripped off...GREAT! We will have the great memories, you will have the same bitter taste in your mind of how you think we should feel! I look back on the memories, pour over some pics now and then, and you know what...I have never even figured out what the trip cost me! I can tell you it cost me $1763 in fuel cost for my 2005 trip to Alaska, 8.3 MPG, but I really don't care! I went
for the "being there, knowledge from being there, and seeing and experiencing in person what you "nay sayers" can only grumble about because you were not there.
