Re: [FWDLK] "Belvedere brouhaha"

As illustrated in the many previous posts there are two types of people in the world. I look at a glass of water and see it half full, others see it as half empty. The world does need some balance but positive thinkers are happier and on average live much longer than negative folks. If the world was full of only positive people we may have self destructed by now, but if only negative folks existed we would still be living in the stone age! Smile, enjoy  life, our beautiful cars, and especially the great friendships we have made through our hobby. Dick W.

I guess I just don't get it.  Sure it was a disappointment that the car had been underwater and looked like crap.  Still, I have seen as bad or worse dragged from the field and sold for restoration rather than just for parts.

She is still a 100 % complete car and once it is totally cleaned up, will no doubt be in a lot better shape than the mud and smears would lead one to believe.

I would be happy to take that car in a NY minute.  Even if some of the frame turned out to be shot and the lower portions of the body in bad shape, I think it is worthy of bringing back.  No one really knows what shape the car is in overall, lets not consign it to the junk heap or to an ignominious end as a muddy spot in the corner of a museum.

My 2 cents.

Plywood, 2 x 4's, whatever, it doesn't really matter; it's an abused hunk of rust that deserves no better.

I'd like to make a request-- please don't use the word "preserve" in relation to this... thing.

"I just don't get it," Sharon King Davis said Monday.  Well, duh !!!  She's the hostess/ shopping center magnate who built a Tulsa mall-- on the river-- facing away from the river!  Her Grampa was one of the
Tulsa-rama-lama-ding-dongs who desecrated the Plymouth back in 1957.

BTW, Cloyd Boddington was invited by the host to give his TV show info and introduce his crew.

Maybe some museum will take this wreck and put it on display... for a while.  Maybe it will go to the crusher.  But please, folks, spend your hard-earned money on your own restorations!

Hi Marv -

I believe one set of photos showed the body being supported by three sheets of 3/4" plywood. Since the car should not be moving after this brief trip to East Tulsa, I feel that this would be opening up a Pandora's box in terms of "well as long as we're repairing the springs, we might as well..."

I want to make a suggestion.  A lot of discussion has been going on relative to what will become of Miss Belvedere.  A lot has been said about not touching her. Leave her alone.  OK.  But do we think that she can continue to limp around with a loose rear axle?

What if we were to undertake providing a set of springs for her, to at least make her transportable and provide her some dignity while on display.

Now I know that this Friday someone will be named as owner but if she is awarded with the rear wheels rubbing on the wheelhouse, well, we might never get a chance at preserving her.  I am sure the Dodge dealer would install them and I will bet she will continue to be a tourist attraction through the summer.

My thought turns to having Mike Eaton..spring supplier to the 300 club, make up a set and ship them out.  I would bet a $5.00 contribution from everyone would meet the $300 or so price tag. I don't consider this restoration. Even if she was in her youthful glory she would probably need some spring work.   Let's discuss this suggestion in a reasonable tone and see if there is support or other suggestions on what we as a club can do.  I met a lot of fine MoPar people this past week. I bet if we had a collection can next to her for preservation we might have filled it.

While we were in Tulsa and not necessarily watching the evening news last Friday,  I am told that Miss Belvedere was on the ABC evening news with Charlie Gibson.
