The covering "tarp" appears torn in the area of passenger side tail fin.

I was thinking more of the plastic the car seems to be wrapped in.  I wonder how carefully it was wrapped.  I guess we’ll know soon.

 

Too bad they didn’t have a HUGE zip-loc baggie available back then.

Not likely. From the photos there is NO attempt to seal the vault. I see no evidence of a seal along the top of the walls or sign of a lip seal.
