I know this: Joe Savard was the man sitting at the
bench building the 3084S carburetors for my '60 300F Special as part of the Gran
Tourismo project of 9 prototype 400HP, Pont-a-Mousson 4spd equipped
cars. Every F Special that went to Daytona for Speed Weeks (7 cars,
6 allowed to run) had carbs by Joe's hands. When I spoke with test driver
Danny Eames (and had him look at and sit in my car) several years ago, he
recalled phone calls from Daytona back "home" to Chrysler for help with the
carbs. I didn't know Joe then but the calls had to be to him.
The 6 F Spls that ran at Daytona were the SIX FASTEST CARS EVER to run on the
sands of Daytona Beach. Beach trials were discontinued after 1961.
Thanks Joe!
