Mark,
I'm a seasoned eBay in both buying and selling and that is definitely a scam. The auction has disappeared because it was a fraud. Tell your Dad under no circumstances send money!
This has been a frequent scheme lately and anyone watching these notes the last week in fact probably noticed my mention of a particular 1960 Chrysler 300 that keeps popping up in the same way.... a near flawless car with a Buy-It-Now of $5,000, insanely low money for that car in that condition.
You can confirm 100% through eBay that this auction was pulled under normal circumstances an eBay auction can be viewed for at the least a couple of months. Whether the auction is visible or not is not under the seller's control, more evidence that this is a scam.
Even auctions that are cancelled or stopped early still can be viewed.
They only time they ever disappear completely when eBay pulls them. Generally the photos have been stolen from another site or a previous, legitimate eBay auction.
I'm sure this is a big disappointment but too good to be true unfortunately usually is. We're glad you checked before your Dad lost his cash.
Good luck!
Scott
