The reason I added the information about the blow-by is that I thought
this may have something to do with the oil leak. Nick.

You might check the bolts holding the adapter on to see if they have
loosened over time, while you're at it remove it and check the gasket
for breaks. Oil filter gaskets sometime stick to the block and you
could have double gaskets on your oil filter. The blow by is probably
worn rings from years of rubbing on the cylinder walls, check your
compression dry then squirt some oil into the spark plug holes and see
if you get a significant increase in compression.

Subject: [FWDLK] weird oil leak
My '56 Desoto wagon has a weird oil leak. Oil leaks out of the oil
filter area only when the car is cold. After warm up the oil leak
stops. Also, the oil filter base has been changed to accommodate a
regular spin-on oil filter instead of the stock canister type. The
oil leaks with a consistent drip for about a minute or two and then
stops. Once the car is warm it never leaks a drop. Also, the
car runs very well but does have a lot of blow-by which is hosed off
from the oil cap to the air cleaner of the carb. Any thoughts?
thanks much, Nick Nichols.
