| Thanx everyone for the help.  I have an aftermarket wire
set with rubber insulators, hence the problem.  I'll get a pair of stork
pliars.   --Roger van Hoy, Washougal, WA, '55 DeSoto, '58 DeSoto, '56

wires
Original hemi plug wire sets had ceramic insulator ends
almost the length of the plug tubes through the valve covers into 1955.
During that year or certainly for the beginning of 1956, a switch was made
from ceramic to a pinkish orange phenolic wire insulator.  Installation
of the wire to the plug is insured when these are in place.  Standard
ignition wire sets without insulators can probably only be installed with a
VERY LONG pair of needle nose pliers.  Currently available aftermarket
plug wire sets that are intended for hemis typically have some sort of
silicone or quality rubber insulators that approximate the original ceramic /
phenolic.    Note that "exact" reproduction wire sets with "Mopar" inked
onto them to make them "genuine" are a sales gimmick.  The factory wires
were inked with "Auto-Lite", a part number and a date code.   Wayne ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options,
