removal!
I just went through the same problem. Your
57 might have a clamp that needs to be removed at the connection from the
filler tube to the tank. My 58 did not, it was held in by the O-ring
inside the tank. I couldn't get the tube to twist out to save
my life. Here's what worked: First, remove the thick rubber gasket
that holds the tube firm inside the filler door. Next, if you have it,
remove the clamp at the tank connection. I then hit that same connection
with penetrating oil (several times over the course of a week or so).
Lastly, I bought an oversized crescent wrench with long handles so I could get
a good grip and some leverage as I tried to twist the tube. Twisting it
out from the point of connection at the tank was futile. Here's what
finally did it: I took the wrench, opened the filler door, grabbed the
tube and jiggled it in every direction hoping to work more penetrating oil
down into the connection. Then I took hold of the tube and twisted it
(from inside the filler door at the top of the tube) - it finally started to
turn, then... voila! Good luck!

Subject: [FWDLK] Gas Tank
removal!
Hi everyone!
Anyone out there know how to remove the gas tank off a 57
Plymouth? We loosened the straps and wires leading to the gas
tank. How do you remove the filler tube that leads to the gas
tank? We are slowly making our way from the passenger floors to the
trunk. Then we will finish up with the quaters. Any advice will
be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kelly
