Back in the late 1960's when I was in North Daakota in the Air Force, I 
helped put a stock car engine back together for my Sargent and he had me put 
it together with STP rather then just oil the parts.  We couldn't even turn 
the engine after using the STP so I took it apart again, cleaned the parts 
and oiled the parts and put it back together and it turned over well then.
 I also had a 31 Plymouth 4 cylinder that had not been run in years.  It 
did start right up when I put a battery in it, but ran rough.  I checked the 
compression of the cylinders and all were different.  I ran Marvel Mystery 
Oil in the crankcase and ran it for an hour a day for a week or so and then 
checked the compression and all cylinders were the same.
Thar's my expereince with both.
