Re: [FWDLK] Front disc brake conversion....red loctite?

You guys up there must have a different product to us because ours is also known as “Red Loctite stud lock” for good reason it locks real tight! I’ve tried breaking this stuff before and it just doesn’t let go.

Hmmm looks like I need to find the right product.

Thanks for the guidance.

Hi Owen

I too am confused. Loctite (red) is a thread sealer. Just put a wrench to whatever bolt it’s been applied to, and it lets go.

Go to their Web site:

http://www.loctiteproducts.com/repairs.asp?qfid=5&Product=154

Have used the stuff for years, I can promise you it comes off

Ummmm, that’s not what it says on the bottle, when it’s cured, it’s permanent, it might as well be welded, you’d need a mighty big wrench.

Umm, its not a welder. Locktite will let go when you put a wrench to it.

Subject: [FWDLK] Front disc brake conversion....red loctite?

Hi everyone,

I have a front disc brake conversion kit here from AAJ Brakes, everything looks really nice. The only questionable thing, to me, is using RED LOCTITE in between the adapter and spindle. As far as I know, once this adapter has red loctite on it, it will become a permanent part of the spindle. So if you were to go back to drums or whatever (probably not likely but it’s nice to have that option) your spindles are affectively useless…..unless you use heat to remove which is not recommended on steering components. There isn’t a lot of spare spindles….down here anyway. Would it be better to use a sleeve locking compound or similar which could be removed, with difficulty, if needed. Rather than using the permanent red thread loctite?

Anyone been through this?

Thanks

Owen
