A couple of years back I bought an original service manual for my 58
Fireflight. Inside, I was pleased to find a typed letter, dated January 28,
1958, from the DeSoto headquarters (12000 E Jefferson St in Detroit) to
Dan's Sales and Service in Carson City, Michigan. It is in reference to a
58 Firedome owned by Clifford Huyck. The car's serial number is "unknown",
but written at the top of the letterhead, in ballpoint ink, is "51-549 Pink
in color. Springs, ignition also". (It's unclear if the written notes were
about the same car.) The customer had contacted the company directly about
a problem with the car. The nature of the letter is to tell the dealer that
they need to contact the customer to correct it. It is signed by E.L.
Knowles "Service Department".
The purpose of this posting isn't to offer to give (or sell) the letter to
anyone. I just thought it would be fun to learn if this car is still
around, and, if so, I thought the owner might like a photocopy of the
letter. If anyone has any info about the car, let me know!
