Lancer is hardtop for Dodge in 55-56. Don't know how log that was
consistant through the 50's and 60's. Anyone?

Sort of like Newport for the Chrysler line. It was the name for
hardtops starting in 50. The name was used for all hardtops--
Windsor, New Yorker and Town and Country. BTW I have two Windsor
parts cars which are available. (shameless plug!) Also 3 T&C
Newport's which never really needed any of the parts but got the parts
cars just in case.
In 55 Newport was the low line and the StRegis was the high line car
of the NY series and for the Windsor series the Newport was the top of
the line and Nassau was the bottom. Interesting mess!

Well, I think a Sportsman was always a hardtop, but not all hardtops
were
designated Sportsman. My '55 Firedome is a hardtop, but is NOT a
Sportsman.

Up to this point, I had always thought that "Sportsman" was synonymous
with
hardtop. There is a black Fireflite sedan (all the pillars) on eBay
right
now that has the Sportsman emblem and script, which makes me rethink my
original hypothesis. Can someone set me straight on this?

PS. Another DeSoto question: what is the difference between a Shopper
wagon
and an Explorer wagon? Is it the rear-facing third seat, the model, or
something entirely different?
