Re: [FWDLK] Engine size for 1955 Belvedere

No, the Dodge 241 is a totally different engine from the A block (277, 301,
303, 313, 318, 326). The bore centres on the A are larger than on the
Dodge.

The 1955 Plymouth poly V8 (241, 260) was based on the Dodge block, the one
that came out in 1953 as a hemi. For 1956, Plymouth offered the poly 270
(based on the Dodge 241) and the new A block poly 277. The A block was the
be Plymouth's engine, but as things turned out, it became a corporate block
along with the wedge B and RB blocks.

As for the engine in the 1955 or 1956 Plymouth, what is the engine number?
It is stamped on the front of the left cylinder bank, just below the head.
>From that you can determine just what you have.

The Dodge block can be converted to either poly or hemi, but the Plymouth/A
block came only as a poly and there are no hemi heads that will fit.
