Re: [FWDLK] He said/She said: TALE-fins...

I obtained the IBM card build sheet from Chrysler historical a while back for my 57 Plymouth that shows it was built with power steering. Well the car doesn,t have power steering and shows no sign of ever having it! Could have been a dealer swap out I suppose, but who knows? Also I had a 63 Belvedere wagon in the mid 60's that was really loaded with accessories including power windows. It had Fury interior door panels from the factory, even had Fury emblems embossed in the front ones! So you can't always believe the build sheet, and most anything was possible from mother Chrysler in the 50's and 60's. Dick

It's fun to sit around our campfires, at nite, & tell
tale-fins.

First, as an addendum to Ray Jone's sad story, the unfortunate wife
almost certainly suffered a broken neck; even seat/shoulder restraints
won't safeguard against those violent reactions, and there may be no
other sign of external
injury.

I had a claim, where another woman suffered a laceration of her heart's superior vena cava, so that blood leaked into her heart 'cavity' and, within an hour, or so, the accumulated blood actually prevented her heart from beating. The E.R. people did a belly tap, & found no internal bleeding, but failed to detect the heart hemorrhage.

So, let's all be safe, out there!

Now, for more pleasant subjects; part of the "fun" of restoring &
maintaining our cars is the fact OF their uniqueness.

Because the credo of MoPar research is : "Never-say-Never",
DOCUMENTATION is critical, unless "we" want to be accused of blowing
smoke, up/out of our 'tailpipes'.

Fortunately, Deadler-Chrysler provides (now, at EXHORBITANT prices; and
'crummy-quality') copies of their IBM Build-cards, so that it IS
possible to confirm a :"Special-Order" car, and/or its special/unique
options.

I was able, back when they cost 'only' 10 bucks, per 'shot', to acquire
quite a few 56 -61 D500 IBM cards , including 'on' some of the 56
Kiekaeffer Dodges, thanx to a listing of them, that I got from Wayne
Graeffen.

ANYway, my point is, if you've 'got' it; DOCUMENT it!

A friend restored a real red/white 59 CRL (single-4-bbl) D500 convie, &
extensive photos were taken of it, in its non-restored condition,
proving its original-condition provenance (as opposed to having-to
'create ' it, from several cars, as commonly (has-to) occur(s) , with
convertibles).

In late 57 m.y., Dodge installed 58 Dashes (with their forward-located
rear view mirrors) . Plymouth apparently installed 58 air cleaners, on
their 'late' 57 models.

The Corp was 'famous' for installing non-standard trim on whatever came
down the 'line'---the TRICK, is documenting those
anomalies.

Unless the assembly line was producing an 'April-Fools' car, or an
employee "Special-Edition", the IBM card (or Broadcast Sheet--good luck;
my car's was never found)
should confirm its legitimacy!

No "tickee"; no BELIEVEEE, as far as I am concerned.
