Talking about Chrysler manual trannys - In
the latest Old Cars Weekly paper dated Jan 12, 2006, there is an article about
the ’61 Chrysler 300-G with the 3-speed manual transmission. According to
article only 40 were built with this tranny and only 4 were known to exist until
a fellow named John Lyons from upstate NY found a fifth one. He now
owns/owned 2 of them. Article goes on to say that he recently sold the
car to another 300 club member and restoration of this rare car is well
underway. Article shows a picture of shift handle being floor-mounted. Car
was found in Stanfordville,
NY where it was parked for more
than 30 years.

Subject: [FWDLK] 3 speed manual
trans question
Hello to all and to all a good Mopar year
!
Talking about my ’61 Chrysler
Newport with factory 3 speed manual transmission: I’d like to swap out
that clunky unit for a later 4 speed manual transmission. Can anyone
offer any advice ? Is there are specific kind, or type, of later
transmission to look for ? Is there anything that will just bolt right in
? what about the trans-mounted emergency brake – will I have to
eliminate that and put later brakes on the rear end ?
Help – any advice appreciated !
