I'm sure this has been covered before at some time but are there any recommended later model Mopar motors and mounting kits that would be good for a '61 Dodge Phoenix? It now has a poly 318 that needs rebuilt but for the sake of getting it driving again I was considering buying a car with a newer running 318/383/440 or whatever and putting that in till I can do the car & motor some real justice. I can usally find good running Mopar beaters around here (Kansas City) for not very much. Not knowing much about cars I was told any motor made after 1962 will not drop in so are there any bolt on mounts to save welding mounts to the frame? For that matter I would even consider a decent running poly V8 if cheap enough but I don't find much forwardlook stuff around here and when I do it's junk. Let me know. Thanks! ---Fred
As a side note to motor mounts - does anyone make mounting kits to put a Mopar V8 (318?) into a '41 Dodge car? I follow instructions well but my creativity sucks! -----Original Message----- From: L-FORWARDLOOK automatic digest system <LISTSERV@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sun, 11 Dec 2005 00:00:41 -0500 Subject: L-FORWARDLOOK Digest - 9 Dec 2005 to 10 Dec 2005 (#2005-333) There are 6 messages totalling 374 lines in this issue. I'm finally getting around to getting it in the car, but I have two quick questions: 1. The motor has been in dry storage, but I have been warned of rebuilt motors "freezing up" if stored after a rebuild for a while. Should I do anything other than putting a little oil in each cylinder and turn it over by hand? 2. The guy who rebuilt the motor for me flushed the transmission also, but didn't finish putting it back together. The shifter mechanism has been removed, and he gave me a little metal cap that he said is part of the mechanism to adjust the transmission. I have no experience with these transmissions, and was wondering if there was an archive or schematic available that I can refer to when trying to put it back together. Any help would be appreciated! Watchin Freebie & the Bean, on Speed Channel; forgot how entertaining this flick is. GREAT car 'shots', & better chase scenes than Bullet. So far a repeating-character , 57 Belvie (ivory/gold-insert 2-dr) has SURVIVED through out several scenes---oh DAMN; the 59 turquoise Ply Suburban just 'bought' it, from a flying-car, in a multiple car intersection crash. There's STILL hope, for that 57, tho....... Alan Arkin & Jim Caan; highly recommended flick!!--still on-air, 9:50PM PST. It still is clean and turns fine. If you have any dounbts, pull the heads and pan and look at the cylinder walls. The gasket set is cheaper than more engine work. But odds are if it turns fine (a little oil in each plug won't hurt) it will be fine.
