Wow...what a thread this has been! So...is it known WHY some manufacturers used pos. ground in the past, and why neg. ground became the industry standard? It's been clearly explained that most of the car's components are not affected by polarity, but there had to be some sort of logic (one would think) why "all" decided to settle on neg. ground. Sorry if I missed this part of the thread. While I've known that the big-3 were all 12V-neg. by 1956, I found it surprising that MG was still positive-ground until 1969. I wonder if any other makes retained a pos.-ground and/or 6V electrics past 1968, such as certain "3rd world" or "2nd world" makes of past communist/socialist nations? But that's getting WOT (way off topic). >From our current perspective, 6V systems are "dinosaurs." But imagine decades forward, if the new 42V systems ever get implemented, that 12V systems would be looked back on as "dinosaurs." 8=) Jason '55 Belvedere 12V-neg. (since Jan.
