I bought a new pinion seal for my 56 at my local auto parts store a
couple
of years ago. It came from Chicago Rawhide for about 25 bucks, new and
fresh.

I looked at the Dodge for sale on Ebay and noticed a reference to Kanter
so
I took a look at their site and was pleased at how many parts and kits
they
have for my 1955 Dodge and others. I have been looking for a pinion
seal to
no avail but they had one.

Subject: free windshield in UK

I have replaced the windshield of my '55 Chrysler Windsor, so the
original one
is up for grab for free to anyone who may need it.

The glass is located in Bournemouth, UK.

It is solex green tinted, and as far as I know it will fit all 55 and 56

Chrysler, De Soto & Imperial except convertibles.

The glass has no cracks at all, but has many surface scratches and
little
chips, and driving in some light conditions, like when the sun is very
low
right in front of you, or by night with high beams pointing at you, the
vision is not good.

I have replaced it for safety as I drive the car often, but for an
occasional
driver should be fine, at least is better than a cracked or missing one.

I have crated the glass in the wooden box the new one came in, so you
can pick
it up or arrange you own shipping.

I have no problem in send it anywere at recipient expenses, but I don't
think
it's worth the money of shipping it abroad. It's your choice however.

I will keep it for few days, if nobody wants it will end in the tip.

Subject: Brake Fluid Leak onto Drums, Shoes

Hi Gang -

I found out why I was having trouble bleeding the brakes on my 58
Plymouth.
The S-shaped connector line between the two wheel cyl's was leaking at
one
of the nuts. The result was that brake fluid leaked onto the drum and
shoes.
What can be done to clean the shoes, which have a portion that is
saturated
with fluid ? Is there a quick way of cleaning the drums, which are also
covered with brake fluid on the inside.?

Thanks,

Ron

Just brake cleaner will do it.

If you get the kind in the jug, you can soak the shoes overnight.

An old mechanic's trick is to soak them in brake cleaner then light them
on fire. They will get nice and hot and the soaked in fluid will bubble
out. The fire is substantially less heat than the shoes get in use, so
it should be fine. I've done this on my DeSoto with no ill effects, and
it was the only thing that cured my 'grabbing' problem.

That's the stuff I was normally use. It also comes in 1-gallon jugs. I
obviously use the flammable kind. =)

I also have the green can stuff as well.

Getting ready to order new springs for my 56 Savoy. Then Espo gives me =
the choice of 4, 5 or 6 leaf springs.
I believe my stock ones are 4 leaf. But they are so worn out, I can't =

I'm leary about getting them too stiff and having the car ride hard.

My initial idea was to get 4 leaf and add a helper that would kick in =
when I loaded the trunk down with tools, beer, etc.

Any suggestions?

Nick,

4 leafs are wimpy. All Dodges used 5 leafs, except the D500 which used
the
stiff 6 leafs. I would go with 5.

J. C. Whitney has a coil spring that clamps onto the axel tube under the
frame. It sits a little lower than contact during normal ride height,
but if
the rear settles down with a load, it then comes into play.
