He's way off base. You stand an excellent chance of gouging
the body that way.
Two ways to remove paint: chemically (strippers,
dipping) or mechanically (sanding, media blasting). In most cases, you'll
probably use both.
Paint removal is part of a refinishing process. Once the paint
is off, the car is exposed to the elements, which means it will start to rust
within hours. You will need to spray the body with a good epoxy primer to
prevent that in the short term. From there, you'll want to continue the bodywork
(you can use body filler over today's epoxy primers) and finally paint.
Were you planning to sell the Challenger in primer or do a
complete refinishing before selling ? If you weren't planning the latter, then I
would just leave it 'as is' and sell it that way. Otherwise, you'll have lots of
time and money into it that you probably won't be able to recoup.

Subject: [FWDLK] Paint Removal -
ForwardLook Cars
I was planning to remove the paint on a Challenger
that I plan to sell, as the paint is chipping off in spots (poor prep?), and
the guy I bought it from said to forget the chemical stripper, and just use a
paint scraper (single-edge razor blade type). Works great. I am
very, very surprised.
My question is, will it work as well on the
ForwardLook cars I have that also need stripped? Both are basically
solid, but have the chips here, there, everywhere that are a real pain to sand
down, treat the rust where it has chipped and been exposed to the
weather, and repaint. I think the paint work will look better with
a full strip.
Are the factory paints on the ForwardLook cars a type
that will strip easily? Has anyone ever stripped a car with a
razor-blade paint stripper?
