As soon as the car started to act crazy, the Brake pedal is stomped on. This shuts off the Cruise. That problem is over for now. New problem, the front wheels are now locked up and you can't steer. Which brings us to ABS Of more concern is the modern cars with ABS. ABS is bad on ice. It requires at least one wheel to be getting some traction. ABS works by comparing the speeds of all 4 wheels and adjusting the brake action accordingly. If all 4 wheels are sliding on the ice, the ABS thinks you're parked, so no brake control. You'll just slide until a wheel grabs traction. As to going down hill with cruise, some downshift the trans to keep the set speed.
