Re: [FWDLK] Safety Question - Thoughts on Seat Belts

In New York they make you take a 5 hour course on safety before you get your license, when I was 16 is was a three hour, all crash movies like you see in drivers ed.When I went for mine in 1986 the films were really out dated and I got to see a film where a "57 Savoy 4 door hit a 60 Plymouth wagon in the side at 60 MPH(T-boned it). They had cameras inside the cars showing what happened to the passengers with and without seat belts.I think if we all saw this film we would have a lot faith in our cars, even with only lap belts.I'm a manager in a Dealership bodyshop and I've seen more crash films than maybe all of you combined,I feel safe in my '57 and '58 with JC Whitney chrome handle lap belts with the big washer under the floor board. If the car is hit hard enough to rip them through the floor I'd be more worried about the steering column coming back when the frame crushes and the steering wheel crushing my face(no crush zones or columns).
