I had two surprises at our little local car shows last summer. The first was seeing the '61 Polara with the Plymouth clip and D500 engine at the Marinette, WI show. Seeing anything Forward Look around here is remarkable, let alone that car! I did talk to the owners, but the history of the car was not made clear to me. It did have quite a presence when seen in person. The second surprise was at the small Manistique show where I ran across an amazingly well-preserved '57 Custom Royal convertible. It was black with a red interior, and powered by the D500 engine backed with a 3-on-the-tree trans. The owner said that he recently bought it from it's original owner in Milwaukee, where it was stashed away in warm, dry storage for years. Everything on the car was claimed to be original, from the top to the carpet. It was a beauty. The story was that the orig. owner bought the car because Dodge advertised on the Lawrence Welk show, and this particular car was displayed on a rotating platform at the local Dodge dealership. Shortly after it was bought, the orig. owner was nearly hit in a parking lot at UW Milwaukee. This close call caused him to put the car away and get another car for commuting. The car now resides in the Green Bay, WI area. Thought everyone would get a kick out of this story! -Eli Collins, 1959 DeSoto _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
