As some of you on the list remember, I have a '57 Plymouth Belvedere 4 door. I have owned the car since 1980. I also owned a '57 Belvedere convertible back in 1982. I will tell you a little about the car. I parted out a '57 4-door, and got the convertible in the deal. The car had set out in a field for ten years and was not running, but the engine was free. The body had a lot of cancer in the rear quarters as I recall, but was straight. The top was rotted and the interior shot. All glass was good. It had the stock 301 engine and torqueflite transmission. The car had regular steering and brakes. Radio with dual rear antennaes. Padded dash. It was red with white sporttone trim. Missing a piece of chrome on one of the doors, I think. Overall, the car was very rough, but original. I got the car when I was newly married and we were living in an apartment building in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Within a few months we had to move, and I could not make arrangements to keep the car in the short amount of time before we moved. Alas, the convertible and I parted ways. That was 22 years ago..... Now, I bring this up in case someone might have interest in searching for the lost ark. The chances that the car is still around today are probably remote, but if it is still around, undiscovered, it would be quite a find. I will tell you what I remember. The guy who took the car was from around Perryville, Missouri. Perryville is on I-55, about 30 miles north of Cape Girardeau, and 70 miles south of St. Louis. Maybe the car was restored. Maybe it was scrapped. But for all I know it may be sitting somewhere near where it was towed to. Perhaps someone is foolhardy enough to pursue this mystery. If anyone does, I would love to know the outcome. By the way, I had named the car "Walaby". Steve Chou Hannibal, MO |
