Use warmer plugs, in the extended reach style, they work well around town and at higher speeds the extended tip sticks out into "the wind" far enough to keep from being too hot. That's what we used in our muscle cars back in the old days to keep things cleaned out. Also, wouldn't a "longer"-section resistor be more effective than a shorter one?
