The VIN plate should be on the driver's door hinge pillar.  If it is an
American-built 1955 Chrysler New Yorker, the VIN will start with
"N55".  or "N55L:".   A Canadian 1955 New Yorker will have an 8-digit VIN
starting with "9980".
