James, If you want POWER, just drop in a mild 440 with a pushbutton (1962 - 1965) 727 transmission and dress it to look like a 59 vintage engine. Mopar Performance may even have a nice crate motor 440. Look for a hydraulic cam that gives maximum torque (smooth idle), not maximum horsepower (rough idle). When searching for a 2x4 intake, remember that there are 2 block heights, thus 2 intake widths. Cast iron 2x4 factory intakes for the B/RB series engines are not that rare. I see them offered at swaps occasionally. Basically, making it a 383 D500. What would be the correct aftermarket intake I can use with my set up? I am looking for part numbers, etc. I want to use some new Edelbrock carbs. I have one on my car now and it is running nice. It was people on this list who guided me in a search for a 4bbl intake that I eventually found. Now I am looking to do a total rebuild and dual quads do look nice... By the way, any other tips on getting my engine built to handle this sort of carburetion? Cam, engine rebuild kits, heads, etc.... I want power, not a rough idle. Anyone willing to offer there 2 cents is welcome. I don't know a lot about it. I have faith in my builder but would like the input of the specialists on this list.
