I am not sure if the torqueflites rae the same as the powerflites but I know a similar leak on my 56 powerflite was caused by the seal where the detent lever enters the case. Unfortunately replacement of that seal my require disassembly or removal of the trans. On the powerflite I was able to change it by just removing the valvebody.
