Hello All,
I
just want to start off saying to Dave thanks for keeping the mailing list alive.
Dave, I wish you well in your search for a new job until the layoff is over. Now
as for the forwardlook.net site, it seems like yearly dues may be in order soon
to keep it alive. Now to those of you are against dues let's weigh the facts
about the site....
1.) As a combined unit, we probably have more
knowledge and archived information about our cars then Chrysler Corp.
2.) The site helps keep our cars on the road, with
the for sale section finding parts we need or want.
3.) The direct ebay link makes it so easy to look
for parts outside the list.
4.) We can keep new Forwardlook owners happy with
their cars and guide them when they have trouble. This keeps them happy with
Mopars and away from the common
brand X collector
cars (keeping our cars alive for future generations). Don't yell at me if you
have some brand X stuff. I do too.
5.) More than likely you've probably made friends
and contacts that you never would have found without the site.
6.) In other car clubs that you may belong to and
pay dues for, do you get as much activity as you do here? We here from each
other on a daily basis. Not a monthly
meeting, not a weekly
meeting but every day.
7.) When I look at the calendar I counted 13 pages
of list members. If Dave needed $150/month ($1800/yr) to keep the site running,
it wouldn't cost us much to pay dues
yearly. Maybe Dave
could make a yearly dues package with the cost of the yearly calendar included.
Now the question is, exactly how dedicated
are we to the list? How much would it take as a combined effort to make
the new list happen? I'm in, who else is? Another thing too. Dave said he wanted
to keep the list open and free to new comers. With the new server I'm thinking
maybe there can be a new guy subscriber section to give them a trial basis to
decide whether or not to join. This would keep "free-loaders" from getting what
we pay dues for. Just an idea. Well, I said what I felt. Let's give Dave some
space and let things calm down for him. He's put alot into this. Let's give him
a break and give him a hearty thank you from all of us.
Take Care,
Frank

Subject: [FWDLK] Good News and Bad
News
Hi
All,
I finally ordered
all of the remaining needed components for the new FL web server yesterday
($1800). That's the good news.
The bad news, is
that after nearly seven years at Ketchum, they have cut my position as part of
the continuing layoffs at that company.
This
has serious repercussions on the ForwardLook web site. Namely, we
will be losing the high-speed access that was so critical to the future plans
for the server. They have allowed the site to remain up for at least a
few weeks, but I do not know how long this will continue.
I am
researching options for high-speed upload lines from my home, but the
cost may be prohibitive ($150+ per month). The site will continue one
way or another, but several areas of the site may have to be cut due to this
situation. The "new" ForwardLook.net site is thus on indefinite
hold.
In any event,
please note that effective immediately, my email address has changed to dave.stragand@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I'm going to be extremely busy the next few weeks trying to get the server
access straightened out, so please do not be offended if I do not return any
personal emails during that time.
Thanks!
-Dave
