Brion, With Chrysler B engines, you need to use a 61 or older crank with a 61 or older tranny. If you use a 62 or newer crank you need to use a 62 or newer tranny. There are no adapters. If you plan to use all the horsepower potential of the big block, I would recommend a 62 to 65 pushbutton TorqueFlight with internal performance upgrades. If you want to get rid of the old ball & trunion front u-joint, I think that 65 was the first year for the modern slip yoke in the tail of the tranny. I replaced the rear axle in my `60 Saratoga with a brand new Ford 9" with numerically lower gears. Wow, what a great difference! So now that I can use the rear emergency brakes if I want, I'm wondering how I want to swap in a newer Chrysler big-block. Many months ago you advised me that I would need to use my existing crank in the new engine to keep my pushbutton tranny, but I'm hesitant because I want a well-balanced engine (my understanding is the older cranks can't take the newer harmonic dampeners). Anyway, it just goes to prove the formula that projects always exceed cash on hand! Thanks again for the info.
