[FWDLK] Where do old parts go

When we are into the discussion about NOS parts wich we all want to put our
hands on for our beloved cars. NOS parts are actually a problem for the
carcompanies, but Volvo in Sweden have come up with a brilliant solution
that put the owners of their old cars in the front seat so to speak.

Volvo saw the problem with obsolete parts some years ago, but they also
recognized the good publicity it was with the 20-25 years old Volvos that
are still around doing their daily duty. But keeping all the parts in stock
was expensive so they decided to make a seperat company that takes care of
the oldies. So today when Volvo decides a part for being obsolete, they ship
all of the remain stock to this company for free. If of some reasons the NOS
company don't want all of it, or at all, they have to contact the different
Volvo-carclubs in Sweden and offer it to them free of charge and shipping
paid for! The NOS copany also takes care of old toolings and contracts with
sub-supliers for a limit production of certain parts. The best part of the
story comes now. They implanted the company in their Volvo-partssystem, so
when you as a owner of a 1966 Volvo 122 decides you need new bushings for
the frontend you just go to your local Volvo-dealer and order them over the
counter and a few days they have them availible for a reasonable price.

Today Volvocars are owned by Ford, but the system continues for the benefit
of all parties. Nothing gets destroyed untill the carclubs have said no to
take care of the parts. Volvos policy toward companies or persons that want
to reproduce old parts are also good and friendly.

Why could'nt Chrysler do this 50 years ago :-)
