Re: [FWDLK] Transmission Fluid I would not take that advice seriously. Someone writes in what to put in his/her MANUAL transmission car and the writer replies what to put in an AUTOMATIC transmission! For one, I would like to know what service bulletins he is talking about. I have a selection of Chrysler Corporation owner's manuals and shop manuals from the 1950;s through 1980's, and NONE mention Type F transmission fluid of any kind. The 1950's advise using Type A. The 1960's advise using Type A, Suffix A (successor to Type A). By the 1970's it is Dexon II (successor to Type A, Suffux A). So, until someone comes forward with hard, written proof, and can show me the service bulletin in its orginal form, I stick to my advice - Use Dexron fluid. Do NOT use Type F. And Mercon is actually the modern day Type F and is to be used in the FWD Mopar transmissions. We use Type F or FA, which is readily available, in our cast iron 727 trannys. Q: I am getting many different answers as to what lube to use in my 4 speed A833 transmission. What is correct? A: Chrysler service bulletins designate "automatic transmission fluid". This fluid should be Type F or Type FA. This fluid should also be used on all cast iron 727 and 904 transmissions. Do not use Type A Suffix A, or any Dexron or Mercon. http://chrysler300club.com/rcmstuff/hints/helpfulhints.htm Tony From: JLSAVARD@xxxxxxx Reply-To: JLSAVARD@xxxxxxx Date: Fri, 18 Oct 2002 00:45:53 EDT To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [FWDLK] Transmission Fluid Hello, All, I have a question that I am certain has been asked and answered before, but I can't dig a reliable answer out of my records. I am changing engines in my Chrysler. The donor engine/transmission is a 1959 Saratoga 383 with a cast iron torqueflite. I believe that the original fluid is type "A", which is no longer available. Can you suggest a suitable substitute? Thanks to all, Joe Savard Lake Orion, MI -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Need an answer fast?
