Exactly! There is a reason for the "max bid" that you put in. It should be
exactly that, the max you are willing to pay. It's not the last minute
bidder's fault that others don't understand the concept of "max bid". In
all reality NOBODY should ever need to bid more than once if they set their
max bid right the first time.
In fact I take the opposite tact. It's the dummies who keep upping their
bid that are the problem. The reason I don't bid early is because there are
too many stupid people out there willing to pay more than something is
worth just because they get caught up in the auction and don't research the
product. I've seen parts I wanted go for more that you can buy them new.
It's ludicrous.

Bidding on eBay.
If you are bidding, your bid goes up in increments noted on the site. That
is, if current bid price is $50 and you want to pay a max of $105 and the
bid increment is $5, you enter your bid as $105 but the bid price only goes
up to $55. If a couple of people come in at the last minute and bid the
piece up to $90, the system will automatically increase your bid to $95.
Therefore you don't have to watch your bid for last minute people and
you'll
be assured that you only paid as much as you needed to up to your maximum.
It works well.

Hey, waiting til the last minute to bid is not cheating. In fact you could
actually lose by doing that if your max bid is lower than the top bidder's
max bid and you don't leave yourself enough time to place another bid. That
is why I just determine what my max price I'm willing to pay is, make that
my max bid, and place my bid with under 1 min to go. If I win, I win and
that's that. Is it my fault if the current winning bidder set their max bid
at less than they were willing to pay ?
