It would seem to me if
you replace all your aforementioned parts with quality replacements and/or
rebuilt them, that you wouldn't have to carry a cache' of extras in the truck.
Such as Neil mentioned his generator, since it's rebuilt, he probably won't have
to deal with it for years. Same with starters, distributors, pumps, etc. As cool
as it is to use NOS pieces, I would rather use currently rebuilt stuff. For
instance, I don't think using a 45 year old NOS fuel pump would be helping the
situation. Now I will agree with carrying extra fluids though.
I realize that what I
drive to shows now (78&79 Magnums) is much easier to find parts for at A/Z,
Napa, etc. should I have a failure. When I had my 57 Coronet Coupe back in the 80's, I
didn't carry anything extra except fluids as I changed w.pump, fuel pump, etc.
when I bought it as it had sat for few years before I got it. The 57 Sedan I
have now will receive the same treatment soon also. I've already bought a brand
spankin' new carb for it. Fuel and water pump are scheduled for replacement this
winter.
Just my thoughts. I
realize that many of you might disagree with me.
How many of you carry a
cellphone or have a CB (remember those?) in your cars?
