Regarding mid-to-late 50s, I would say 95% of the time,
it's odd-left, even-right. With the window regulator
example that Bill mentioned, sometimes Chrysler used the
left front regulator for a 2dr hardtop, for example, on
the right rear of a sedan or 4dr hardtop.  That would
account for an even-numbered part on the left.
