Hello, The vacuum advance helps improve timing and throttle coordination so you get better fuel economy on the highway. You can plug the vacuum line to the distributor and adjust the timing to run with only the centrrifugal advance mechanism that is built in to the older assemblies such as the 1959 Coronet. Economy may suffer a little, but with the setting of the timing, it will run fine. I did that on several cars that I used for drag racing back in the sixties.
