Tim,

You did not say which shop is rebuilding your hood hinges, but here is one
that specializes. I have never seen their work, but they claim to be
experts. I think it is a good idea to discuss your problem with any
prospective rebuilding shop and have them describe the process they use for
restoration to see if it addresses the problem or is only cosmetic.

We're about to the point of being ready to box up our hood hinges and
send them out for rebuilding, but before I do, I thought I'd check with
the list to see if anybody has any ideas.

We're working on a '57 300C, and have decided to mock up all the front
clip sheet metal prior to paint, to be sure we are happy with the
fit/finish of the panels.  It's been a good exercise to make sure all
the hardware, shims, etc. are already accounted for before we end up
banging all our freshly painted panels together.

Our struggle is with the rear hood line against the cowl.  I think we
have a good gap between the hood and the cowl, but when we lift the
hood, it immediately moves "back" instead of "up", and consequently
crowds against the cowl edge.  I talked with a shop back east  that will
install new rivets in our hood hinges and they "think" that will solve
our problem.  We do find a small amount of slop in the pivot points of
the hinges.  Although it seems small,  perhaps it is enough wear when
it's multiplied over the 5 rivets in the hinge to be significant.
Before I plunk down customer's money on this service, I hoped I could
gather some collective wisdom from the group if anybody has already
dealt with this issue and might know what it is I'm misunderstanding.
