Back the nut off until it is just flush with the end of the axel, then attach the puller.Tighten the puller as hard as you dare, then slam the end of it with your favorite big hammer(the bigger, the better). Hit it hard and hit it square and you won't hurt anything. If that doesn't do it, then repeat the above, after you heat things up with a torch. I have the right kind of puller and I coated the axel with a rust dissolving, penetrating oil. So far the score is drum 3, humans 0. I'm going back on Monday to try again. I'm thinking about applying a little heat. Any other helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. Also, there is a 51 and a 50 sitting next to this car. I have taken some measurements and everything looks like it's the same size. If the 59 drum wins, will a 50 or 51 work on my 57 Belvedere? I also need a rim for my spare tire. Again, they all appear to be the same. Will a rim from the 50, 51 work on my 57? The tire I pulled off the 59 has water in it so I do not want to use the rim. Thanks for your help.
