Hello,
To any/ all who have been following my search for information
on the a/c thermal switch location in a '59 Plymouth:
Several of you have advised me to insert the probe
directly into the evap "coils". The problem is the probe on this NOS switch is
only about 6" long, so this action would seem impossible.
However, being a heater-equipped car, there is ALREADY a
probe running from the evap. plenum thru a neat little access hole and down to
the watervalve on the firewall. All heater-equipped cars have this probe
(at least in '59). This probe senses the temperature in the plenum
and transmits that information to the watervalve. It seems logical to
me that I can clamp my thermal switch probe to that existing probe
anywhere along its length, thereby "tapping into" that signal.
I got this idea from a photo on p.
470 of the 1958 Plymouth Service Manual. At the watervalve there is a sort of
"pliers" clamp which brackets the existing capillary tube, and I think I
can just fit the thermal switch sensor right next to it and make good
contact.
Philippe, do your pictures support my plan in any
way?
as always, if someone can get to an a/c car and visually
confirm this is what the factory did, I would be most
appreciative...
