[FWDLK] 58 Plymouth Savoy

Hi Ho My Fellow Finsters!
    I took a ride to town today and checked out the 58 I had mentioned in
an earlier email.  Well, not all is what I was told byu someone other than
the owner...
The present owner is not the second owner, maybe the fourth, but have no
way of knowing for sure.    The car is a 58 Ply.  Savoy 4 dr. sedan, 6 cylinder
with a Powerflite transmission.   Power Steering, Radio, Tinted Glass, Plastic
Seat Covers,(new in 1977) Wide Whitewalls (new in 1980)  It is Bronze Metallic
in color with a White/Cream  roof.  The seats weem to be original black and
white, very nice ,with some wear and fading, a few small tears in the headliner,
and a day/night rear view  mirror.  After looking over the body and trunk,
( I did not lift floor mats or trunk mat) the floor and trunk both seem very
solid.  There are a few small rust bubbles starting on the lower rear quarter
panels and rockers.  A few small scratches here and there, and some fading
in the paint.  The trim all looked very nice.
    The owner and I looked over all of the paper work he has, dating back
to 1977.   The car was sold at an auction in Freeport IL in or around 1980. 
It was then taken to a body shop and had some minor body repair and was repainted. 
(paint job cost $550.00 )  It had new Sears www tires put on, brakes were
gone over and it was tuned up.   The car was then sold to the present owner
in 11/83.   He had the engine gone through, as they thought the main bearings
were too noisy.  ($840.)  The master cylinder was replaced and he added another
outside rear view mirror.  A NOS rear bumper was purchased ( $40 ) and installed.
  He has been looking for the back up light ever since.  The mileage showing,
and believed to be original, is 36,000 +   
    There seemed to be a little wrist pin noise when we first started it
up, but ran super quiet after it warmed up in a few minutes.   I did not
drive it, but he said the brakes grab a little, and need to be gone over. 
I could not find what I thought to be any major repair areas, though I did
not have a magnet to help me either.   
    After looking at, sitting in and listening to this nice 58, I really
want to get my 59 on the road.   The owner said he does not want to sell
it this fall anymore, but will decide in the spring.  He said he will call
me first, as he knows I have a real interest in the finned cars.   I have
no idea of what the price might be, but I know what he has in it, and I will
keep that under my hat for now.   SOOOOO, if it comes up for sale in the
spring and I am not interested, I will pass it along onto the list members.
